Final round of ‘Bangladesh Informatics Olympiad-2024’ held at Daffodil International University
Deb Jyoti Das Soumya, a student of class XI of Jalalabad Cantonment Publik School and College, won the gold medal in Bangladesh Informatics Olympiad-2024 through the two-day long competition. In the final phase, among the 47 contestants, SSC candidate Desh Acharya of Scholars School and College and HSC candidate Zerif Rahman of Shah Makhdoom College won silver.
In the competition, HSC candidate from Govt. Yasin Kollege, Aaqib Azmain Turya; SMA Nahian, an HSC candidate of Dhaka College; Naveed Tausif, a class XI student of Earth Habuz Alternative School, won the bronze medal and Abrar Al Samit, a HSC candidate of Chittagong College, won the bronze medal.
The competition was held at the Daffodil International University campus in Birulia from Friday, April 26 to Saturday, April 27. Department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) of Daffodil International University organized the initiative of Bangladesh Informatics Olympiad Committee. Dutch Bangla Bank Limited fully supported the event.
It may be noted that, popular science fiction writer Professor Dr. Muhammod Zafar Iqbal has been serving as the president of Bangladesh Informatics Olympiad Committee, while Professor Dr. M Kaykobad has been serving as a member of the committee.
The ‘Bangladesh Informatics’ Olympiad serves as a national platform for high school and pre-university students to tackle intensive problem-solving and algorithmic challenges in Informatics’ premier global competition that strictly follows the framework of the International Olympiad in Informatics (IOI). The International Olympiad in Informatics (IOI) provides an opportunity for participants to demonstrate their skills in innovative solutions to complex problems, algorithm design, data structure implementation, and programming and the process of testing their solutions.
This year’s event was held in the presence of eminent academicians and experts dedicated to the field of computer science. Prominent physicist of the country, renowned educationist and Islamic researcher of Bangladesh and former president of Bangladesh Science Academy, Professor Dr. M Shamser Ali. The session was chaired by Daffodil International University Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. M. Lutfar Rahman. Distinguished computer scientist Professor Dr. M Kaykobad, Daffodil International University, Dean of the Faculty of Science and Information Technology Dr. Syed Akhtar Hossain, Deputy Managing Director of Dutch Bangla Back Limited Shah Alam Patwari, and Head of Computer Science and Engineering Department of Daffodil International University and Chair of ‘Bangladesh Informatics’ Olympiad-2024 Professor Dr. Sheikh Rashed Haider Noori were present as special guests.
The highlight of this year’s event was the participation of renowned teams including BUET Potatoes, RUET Aftermath’, ‘DU NoSoStrong’, and ‘BRACU-Cross’, who excelled at the recent ICPC World Finals, which added a layer of motivation for the participants. The competition ran for two days; The first day was from 4 pm to 9 pm and the second day from 9 am to 2 pm. This event not only tests the computational mettle of the youth but also serves as a platform for future innovations in the field of computer science. The anticipation and excitement among students, academicians and industry leaders unfolding in this intellectual war has profound impact and significant role in nurturing the next generation of technologists and problem solvers in Bangladesh.
