Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Kazi Habibul Awal has commented that there will be no digital misappropriation if the next elections are held with EVMs. He said, there will be no vote tampering in EVM, the decision has been taken after verification. If the government does not budget for EVM voting due to financial crisis, then EVM voting will not take place.
He expressed his mind while talking to reporters at his office on Wednesday (September 7). At that time, he said, “Those who complain about EVMs should prove it.”
CEC made such comments in view of the statement of 39 citizens.
The Chief Election Commissioner said, there is no chance of political crisis due to EVMs. Political parties have to solve the crisis in politics. EVM is not a ‘weak’ machine.
Pointing out that there is no such advantage in the ballot even, CEC said, “There is no such precedent in the last 50 years that the candidate who lost the ballot filed a case in the court and won by recounting the votes.”
It is to be noted that, in a statement sent to the media on Tuesday (September 6), 39 prominent citizens of the country urged the Election Commission not to use Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) in the upcoming national elections.
It is said that without political consensus, the Election Commission has decided to use EVMs for voting in a maximum of 150 seats in the upcoming National Assembly elections. We feel that this decision of the Commission is unreasonable. This will further fuel the political debate and make the Commission’s current crisis of confidence even more pronounced. We will once again suffer a failed election, which will plunge us into dire straits as a nation.
