Despite the stagnant global economy due to the coronavirus pandemic and the Ukraine-Russia war, Bangladesh’s export earnings in the technology sector have increased. Bangladesh has earned 369 million dollars in the last 10 months by exporting software, data processing and other services in the technology sector. Among them, the highest income from sales and services was 277.9 million dollars.
According to Bangladesh Export Development Bureau (EPB) data, export earnings in the technology sector increased by 35.59% over the target period from July last year to April this year. In the financial year 2020-21, the revenue in the technology sector was 242 million dollars.
At the same time, the revenue in the technical consulting services (consultancy) sector increased from $22 million in the previous year to $31 million. Data processing, web hosting, consulting and product installation and maintenance accounted for the highest revenue in the first 10 months of last fiscal. For example, Computer and Peripheral Equipment Installation, Maintenance and Repair saw revenue increase by nearly 86% to $9 million during the same period. Data processing and web hosting exports rose 61 percent year-on-year to $277.9 million in the July-April period.
Similarly, IT consultancy recorded revenue of $31 million in the first 10 months of FY 2021-22, up from $22 million a year ago. During the same period, income from software export increased from $42.6 million to $51 million.
