The rate of mobile users in the country is 55.89% and internet users are 30.68%.
This information was presented at the publication ceremony of the first digital census and household census 2022 implemented through BBS under the Department of Statistics and Information Management at Bangabandhu International Conference Center (BICC) in the city on Wednesday (July 27).
In 2022, 30.68% of people aged 5 and above and 37.01% of people aged 18 and above used the Internet in the last three months, according to preliminary reports.
BBS project director Dildar Hossain highlighted various aspects of the report. He said, gender wise analysis shows that the number of mobile phone users is 55.89% among the age group of 5 years and above. Of them, 72.31% of the population aged 18 years and above have mobile phones for personal use. Similarly, 66.53% of males and 45.53% of females aged 5 years and above; 86.72% of males and 58.83% of females among 18 years and above own mobile phones for personal use.
On the other hand, the ratio of internet users between 5 to 17 and 18 and above is 30.68: 37.01. In this case, the male-female ratio of 5 years to 17 years is 38.02: 23.52 and in the case of 18 years and above, this ratio is 46.53: 28.01.
Division wise analysis shows that the population owning mobile phones in both the age groups is the highest in Dhaka division and the lowest in Sylhet division.
According to BBS census, the population of Bangladesh is now 16 crore 51 lakh 58 thousand 616 people. Among them, the number of men is 8 crore 17 lakh 12 thousand 824 people, the number of women is 8 crore 33 lakh 47 thousand 206 people and the population of the third gender is 12 thousand 629 people.
According to statistics, 11 crore 3 lakh 63 thousand 587 people live in villages out of total population of the country. And the inhabitants of the city are 5 crore 20 lakh 9 thousand 72 people. The average annual growth rate of population in the country is 1.22%. In 2011 census this rate was 1.46%. The country has a population density of 1,119 per square kilometer. Which in 2011 was 976. The literacy rate in the country is 74.66%. The literacy rate of the male population is 76.56%, the rate of the female population is 72.82%.
