To ensure digital services for traders, the government’s Office of the Chief Controller of Imports and Exports launched the online system ‘Online License Module’ (OLM) on July 1, 2019. Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi said all services for traders (about 52) would be ensured online. From now on, you will not need the cooperation of any third party or person to avail the services.
He was speaking as the chief guest at a program titled ’50 types of services online in 50 years of independence’ organized by the Office of the Chief Controller of Imports and Exports at the Shaheed Sheikh Kamal Auditorium of the National Sports Council in Paltan on Monday, June 6, 2022.
The Commerce Minister said, Digital Bangladesh is no longer a dream, it is now a reality. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is working to build a smart Bangladesh. The Office of the Chief Controller of Imports and Exports under the Ministry of Commerce is providing 100% online services of Digital Bangladesh.
He added that in the 50 years of independence, 50 types of services have been guaranteed online. In fact, the number of service provided is 52. Merchants can now take these services online from home. You do not have to go to CCI&E office to get any service from this department. This is a great achievement for the government. Digital Bangladesh’s digital online service will take the country’s trade and commerce further ahead.
Tipu Munshi said that Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman dreamed of building a golden Bengal for the country. Make a responsible contribution by ensuring all services for online merchants. If we all perform our duties honestly and efficiently from our respective positions, it will not take much time to build a golden Bengal.
He said, the country’s trade and commerce has become more dynamic than ever. The scope of business has increased. The traders have a lot of expectations from us. The people of the country want to get trade related services easily without any kind of harassment. People need to ensure that service with honesty and efficiency.
‘Everyone has to work to meet people’s expectations. The target for the current financial year was set at $ 51 billion, this time the actual exports will not be less than $ 60 billion. In the next two years, Bangladesh’s export income will be 80 billion US dollars,” said the Minister.
Senior Secretary of the Ministry of Commerce Tapan Kanti Ghosh presided over the ceremony while the Chairman of Bangladesh Competition Commission Md. Mofizul Islam delivered his speech as the special guest and FBCCI President Md. Jasim Uddin. Sheikh Rafiqul Islam, Chief Controller of Import and Export Office delivered welcome speech on the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion, Tapan Kanti Ghosh, Senior Secretary, Ministry of Commerce, said that from now on, no more services will be provided offline in the office of the Chief Controller of Imports and Exports. Merchants will get all the services of this office online.
Sheikh Rafiqul Islam, Chief Comptroller of the Office of the Chief Controller of Imports and Exports, said that traders or service recipients are getting other services including import-export related certificates by applying online. In this case, it is not necessary to submit hard copy of the client’s documents. A client will open a single Online Licensing Module (OLM) account in the name of his / her organization and will be able to avail the desired services through this account for life. He mentioned that no third party has the chance to interfere here.
