Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal promised to take action against those who are responsible for e-commerce fraud and also advised consumers to invest cautiously.
On the other hand, the High Court has advised to run a public interest campaign to reduce the greed of the consumers in the name of business in e-commerce companies.
During the writ hearing on the phone call eavesdropping on Sunday (September 19), the High Court bench comprising Justice M. Enayetur Rahim and Justice Mustafizur Rahman gave the advice.
Lawyer Shishir Monir appeared for the writ petition while Deputy Attorney General Bipul Bagmar appeared for the state.
Meanwhile, in response to a question from reporters at the Secretariat, the Home Minister said that an investigation is underway into the fraud through e-commerce. If any crime is proved, strict action will be taken against them. But the consumers also have to invest ‘by using their senses’.
The Home Minister also informed about Sohail Rana, the alleged patron of e-commerce company E-Orange and a sacked inspector of Banani police station detained in India, would be repatriated soon.
On the other hand, another case has been filed against Evaly Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Managing Director (MD) Mohammad Russell and Chairman Shamima Nasrin at Dhanmondi police station for embezzling customer money.
