In collaboration with Bangladesh Red Crescent Society (BDRCS), Grameenphone started delivering relief food items to 10,000 families in the flood-affected areas of Chattogram Division. Besides, Grameenphone will also help set up five water treatment plants to provide safe drinking water.
On August 13, BDRCS and Grameenphone jointly started the relief distribution.
In this regard, Acting Chief Corporate Affairs Officer of Grameenphone Hossain Sadat said, “Innumerable people are suffering due to the submergence of various areas in Chattogram Division. Due to floods and landslides caused by heavy rains, people are in crisis of safe food and clean water. Keeping network facilities operational is critical in flood-prone areas. And our staff are working tirelessly to ensure this service. Also, as a responsible organization, we have taken steps to hand over food relief items to the affected families. Grameenphone is committed to extend a helping hand whenever the country needs.”
Bangladesh Red Crescent Society (BDRCS) Secretary General Kazi Shafiqul Azam said, “People of Chattogram region are facing an unexpected challenge due to floods. People’s lives are disrupted due to adverse conditions caused by floods. People’s houses have been submerged under water in different areas of Chattogram Division. Once again, we have stood by the marginalized people and communities in this situation by expressing solidarity with Grameenphone.”
It should be noted that earlier in 2022, Grameenphone provided food relief to 15 thousand families to deal with the severe floods in the north and north-eastern parts of the country. In addition, the organization has also set up four medical camps for public health in Netrokona, Sylhet and Sunamganj regions along with Bangladesh Red Crescent Society.
