The Education Minister Dr. Dipu Moni said that there is a huge potential for the fourth industrial revolution- 4IR, referring to the education system of the country in accordance with the needs of the labor market. There are also many challenges and adversities. They have to be dealt with. Therefore, information and communication technology (ICT) skills acquisition, soft skills and ethical values should be learned. Skilled manpower must be developed for the development of the country. Private universities can play an important role in this regard.
The education minister opined so while speaking as the representative of the President and the Chancellor of the University at the convocation ceremony of BRAC University on Monday.
Highlighting the various initiatives in higher education, she further said that the government is working tirelessly to develop human resources who are qualified, skilled in science and technology and inspired by the spirit of liberation war. The government wants students to be pioneers in science and progressive in thinking. English is no longer just a language, it is a tool. So it must be known, learned and used.
In the afternoon, the convocation ceremony was held at the Bangabandhu Bangladesh-China Friendship Exhibition Center located near the Kanchan Bridge intersection. In this year’s convocation, 4 thousand 889 students were awarded degrees at various levels. Out of this, 31 meritorious students were given medals.
The convocation speaker was Omar Ishrak, former CEO and Chairman of Medtronic. He also emphasized improving students’ proficiency in English. He said, English is the language of international business.
BRAC University Board of Trustees Chairman Tamara Hasan Abed expressed hope that in the next 50 years, students will be able to make Bangladesh a leader by crossing many new destinations.
Acting Vice-Chancellor Syed Mahfuzul Aziz, Convocation Committee President AFM Yusuf Haider, meritorious student Tawhidul Islam and others also spoke on the occasion.
