For the first time in the history of Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology (CUET), the bi-annual election of the Executive Council of the Officers Association 2023-24 has been completed through e-voting. Engineer Syed Mohammad Ikram was elected as the president and Mohammad Harun was elected as the general secretary. Chief Election Commissioner and Chief Engineer Sirajul Islam announced this result today on 24 January (Tuesday) afternoon.
In this election, Engineer Syed Mohammad Ikram got 128 votes for the position of President, and Engineer Syed Md. Zillur Rahman unopposed for the position of vice president; for the position of General Secretary Md. Maqbul Hossain got 88 votes, Engineer Muhammad Morshedul Haque got 97 votes for the post of joint general secretary, Mohammad Jamal Uddin Chowdhury got 87 votes for the post of organizational secretary, Mr. AKM Kamrul Hasan went unopposed for the post of finance secretary; sports, literature and cultural editor Md. Zilhaj Uddin unopposed, office secretary Md. Rubel Mahmud got 92 votes, Mohammad Noor Newaz got 100 votes for the post of information, publicity and publication editor, Nivedita Das for the post of women’s affairs editor unopposed and Dr. Mohammad Shahabuddin got 110 votes for the post of executive member; Md. Mirajuul Islam got 96 votes, Pankaj Barua got 90 votes, Mr. Mohammad Haroon got 84 votes and Mohammad Nashir Uddin got 83 votes.
Prior to this, continuous polling took place from 10 am to 3 pm at the CUET TSC Auditorium. 172 officials exercised their voting rights in this election. Chief Patron and Vice Chancellor of CUET Officers’ Association Professor Dr. Mohammad Rafiqul Alam visited the polling station and cast his vote. Later, he exchanged greetings with all the voters and candidates present.
At this time, the registrar of the university (additional duties) Professor Dr. Sheikh Mohammad Humayun Kabir; Director of Student Welfare Prof. Dr. Md. Rezaul Karim, election observer and security advisor Dr. Ashutosh Saha were present.
2023-24 Executive Council election chief engineer Md. Sirajul Islam and deputy registrar as election commissioner Md. Nurul Huda officiated.
Besides, Deputy Director (Information and Publication) Mohammad Fazlur Rahman, Deputy Registrar Prabir Chandra Bhowmik, Programmer of Comptroller’s Office as Assistant Election Commissioner Md. Noor Uddin Chowdhury, IICT sub-divisional engineer Sagar Talukder and assistant director Md. Anisuzzaman Khan (Security) officiated.
This is the first time in the history of CUET that electronic voting (e-voting) has been introduced in any type of election. This system was created by the programmer of the Comptroller’s office Md. Noor Uddin Chowdhury and IICT Sub-Divisional Engineer Sagar Talukder.
