A lady and mother of two minor children has been arrested in Rajbari for spreading ‘rumors’ in the name of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina through social media. Her name is Sonia Akhtar Smriti. The police arrested him from his home in Beradanga area of Rajbari Municipality on Tuesday night.
Sonia Akhtar is the founder of a voluntary organization called ‘Rajbari Blood Donors Club’. It is alleged that she writes against the government on her Facebook ID.
Rajbari Sadar Upazila Mizanpur Union Awami League Secretary of Science and Technology Md. Samsul Arefin Chowdhury filed a complaint at Rajbari Sadar Police Station. In view of that statement, the police took a case under section 153 and 505 of the Penal Code at Rajbari Sadar Police Station. An Inspector of Rajbari District Police confirmed the case on condition of anonymity.
It is stated in the statement of the case that Sonia Akhtar intentionally spread false, fabricated and defamatory statements through social media/digital medium with the aim of tarnishing the reputation and image of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
Sonia Akhter came on Facebook live before the arrest. She said to the police there, “Why are you coming to catch me in the middle of the night? I’m not running away. I have two small children. I take care of them. Well, give me 10-15 minutes. I am going with you voluntarily.”
The investigation officer of the case, Rajbari Sadar police station sub-inspector Aleya Akhter said, ‘In view of the case in Sadar police station, I arrested Sonia from her house at night and came home. It is not possible to say anything more now.’
