Posts and Telecommunications Minister Mostafa Jabbar has expressed pride that the current generation of the country is highly skilled in digital technology. “The intellectual creativity and performance of the new generation of boys and girls is a unique example in the world,” he said.
Commenting on the fact that in the digital age, there will be no alternative to the use of internet in all fields starting from education, the Minister further said, Internet-based outsourcing industries are already emerging in remote hills and haors, as well as creating digital industry entrepreneurs. Software made by local entrepreneurs is now being exported to 80 countries around the world.
At the same time, he urged all concerned to come forward to encourage the development of the local software industry through the use of local software. The minister made the call while addressing as the chief guest at the inaugural function of the local ride-sharing The Borak at Shilpakala Academy auditorium in Dhaka on Monday.
Mentioning that not a single person using computer was found in this country even 35 years ago, the pioneer of computer technology development said that the first computer came to this region in 1964 with the help of Hanif Uddin Miah Later, after Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina withdrew VAT-tax on computers to make computers accessible to the general public in the fiscal year 1998-99, computers began to reach the common people.
He said that the journey of development of digital technology started with the help of Bangabandhu after overcoming hundreds of years of backwardness in technology through the formation of T&T Board, getting membership of UPU and ITU and establishment of satellite ground station at Betbunia. In the continuation of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s Digital Bangladesh program in 2008, Bangladesh has qualified to lead the fourth industrial revolution in the last thirteen and a half years, said the heroic freedom fighter Mostafa Jabbar.
