The capital city of Dhaka has become full of activity since Sunday morning after a long break due to Eid, Bangla New Year, May Day, heat wave and weekend holidays. As a result, passenger transports had to stand still for hours on the capital’s larger Farmgate-Mirpur-Kachukhet-Cantonment area-Kalshi, Banani road. Traffic jams have also occurred in the areas where there are educational institutions, including the old Dhaka-Bailey Road. There was traffic congestion on the road from Old Dhaka to Paltan. In old Dhaka’s Laxmibazar area, the crowd of students and parents from several institutions including Shaheed Suhrawardy College, Dhaka Mahanagar College, Kabi Nazrul College as well as St. Gregory’s, St. Francis Xavier’s School was seen more than usual.
All in all, the motor cycles somehow managed to move in gaps, but the other vehicles had to move at a snail’s pace. It is the stranded passengers who choose to vent their anger on social media feeds. They shared various comments and pictures on Facebook. In addition to expressing their anger in traffic alert groups on Facebook; the victims also shared the issue of which roads should be avoided.
However, on the first morning of the end of the holiday, a person who was upset with the traffic jam posted a picture of the Kalshi area and wrote, ‘Why does VIP movement not do late night or early morning? Why do they move at office entry time?’
Another posted a picture of the traffic jam and wrote, Avoid the Uttara-Mirpur area. The whole road is jam-packed. It’s unbearably hot. Another person wrote about the pain of standing still for an hour, ‘the road of Dhaka is now a curse for us!’
However, many people have seen such comments and have come to the road after knowing the road conditions on Google maps.
