The Election Commissioner (EC) Brigadier General (Retired) Md. Ahsan Habib Khan said that “The biggest challenge of the Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) is to keep a terrorists and robbers standing in the secret rooms of the polling stations. There is only one challenge in EVM, I don’t see any other challenge,” he said. “A robber, a terrorist stands in each secret room, and says ‘your vote is casted’. This is the challenge.”
On Monday, May 30, Ahsan Habib told reporters at his office in the Election Building in Agargaon that it would not happen in the election. There will be CCTV cameras, journalists will be allowed to enter the polling centers. Voting will be stopped as soon as you send a picture of anomalies.
He further said that no concession will be given in the election. We do not have weaknesses. There is no pressure. We are completely independent. You will see that we will work independently. I want to talk less.
It may be noted that, the EC is thinking of voting in EVM in the next parliamentary elections. The Kazi Habibul Awal Commission has already held meetings with experts for this purpose. At present, the EC has one lakh 54 EVMs, with which it will not be possible to vote in more than 100 constituencies.
Referring to the EVM customization process in front of the Cumilla City Corporation election candidates, Ahsan Habib said they had many questions. I have answered those questions. Candidates will be invited to show the customization process in future also. Besides, meetings will be held with the technical team of political parties in future. However, the date has not been finalized yet.
In response to another question from reporters, Ahsan Habib said that there would be no mistake in the effort to gain confidence. We will try to work with all the candidates. If the fingerprint does not match or the finger is cut off, the presiding officer has one percent power in his hand. If necessary, how many people will be seen with video call. He will give his vote to whomever he wants. We will have no lack of sincerity.
