On August 1, 1971, The “Concert for Bangladesh” was organized in Madison Square Garden, New York, USA, to build public opinion in favor of the Bangladesh War of Independence. In a similar vein, the “Golden Jubilee Bangladesh Concert” began at 8 pm New York time on Friday (May 6) under the theme “Let the Music Speak” to celebrate the 50th anniversary of independence.
However, the Bangali people started gathering in Madison Square from noon. The whole square began to take shape like a Bangali Para. Meanwhile, State Minister for ICT Zunaid Ahmed Palak toured the preparations for the concert with Bikarna Kumar Ghosh, Managing Director of Hi-Tech Park Authority. Madison Square became a piece of Bangladesh in the footsteps of local and visiting Bangladeshis.
After checking their sound system on stage, the Bangladeshi band ‘Chirkut’ performed their performances in the evening. Meanwhile, members of the world famous band ‘Scorpions’ arrived at the venue.
In the last rehearsal, it was seen that the whole stage was obsessed with the national flag of Bangladesh in the flash of red-green light. The writing on the screen came out in Bengali letters.
It may be noted that, George Harrison of the world-famous band ‘Beatles’ and Indian sitar artiste Ravi Shankar organized the ‘Concert for Bangladesh’ on August 1, 1971 at Madison Square Garden in New York City to help Bangladeshi refugees. The concert had two shows on the same day at 2:30 pm and 8 pm. A total of 40,000 spectators attended. As a result, $ 25,000 was expected to be raised from the concert, but this income turned a hundred times more, that went about $2.5 million. However, this time the income from the concert will be spent on the cyber security of developing countries.
