Two members of popular Bangladeshi rock band Miles have filed a case against Banglalink, the country’s third largest mobile operator. The country’s top music star James has approached the lower court of Dhaka to protect his song on the same charge.
Miles vocalist Hamin Ahmed and keyboardist Manam Ahmed filed the case under copyright law in the Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge’s Court on Sunday.
The case was filed under sections 61, 72 and 91 of the Copyright Act, 2000.
Eric Ass, CEO of Banglalink Digital Communications Limited, M Nurul Alam, Chief Compliance Officer and Sanjay Baghasia, Chief Digital Officer have been named as defendants in the case.
However, looking at Banglalink’s website, it has been seen that there is no post of digital officer like the Chief Compliance Officer.
In this regard, Banglalink’s Head of Corporate Communications and Sustainability Ankit Sureka said, “As a law-abiding company, we are committed to abide by all the laws of the country, including copyright guidelines. We don’t know anything about this officially yet. We can’t comment without knowing the details.”
Meanwhile, in the presence of James, his lawyer Tapash Kumar filed a case against Banglalink under the Copyright Act in the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge Imrul Kayes.
But the court returned the case and directed him to go to Gulshan police station to file the case.
