A seminar titled ‘Ensuring Cyber Security and Prevention of Cyber Crime’ was held at Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology (RUET) in on Saturday. Organized by the Digital Security Agency (proposed National Cyber Security Agency) of the Department of Information and Communication Technology, the day-long seminar was chaired by Dr. Md. Al Mehdi Hasan, Head of the Faculty of Computer Science and Engineering of RUET.
Director General of Digital Security Agency Abu Saeed Md. Kamruzzaman presented the main article in the seminar while Dr. Shamim Ahmed, a Professor of Computer Science and Engineering Faculty of Rajshahi University was present as a discussant.
While speaking as the chief guest, the Dean of the Computer Science and Engineering faculty of the university Dr. Md. Rabiul Islam emphasized the increase of industry collaboration and long-term training of students on cyber security. He said, our life is now very much connected with the cyber world. Smartphones and internet are now one of the accessories of our life. The use of IoT devices is increasing day by day. So everyone needs to be aware of the latest cyber risks at an individual level to protect themselves. Risk management strategies should also be known. For this cyber etiquette, do’s and don’ts should be followed.
The Keynote presenter and Director General of DSA Abu Saeed Md Kamruzzaman highlighted the need for the newly approved Cyber Security Act, 2023 to secure the country’s cyber space and various aspects of cyber security. He outlined DSA’s action plan to ensure cyber security of 34 Critical Information Infrastructures (CIIs) announced by the government. Also discussed various activities and future plans of Digital Security Agency (proposed National Cyber Security Agency). Explained the functions of Cyber Forensic Lab and training of students in the lab. This cyber warrior urged the students to be more involved in those initiatives by highlighting what the government is doing to ensure cyber security.
While discussing the main article, Professor Dr. Shamim Ahmad elaborated the role of universities in ensuring cyber security and various types of cyber-crimes and their prevention. We emphasize on building a secure cyber infrastructure by developing our own software and hardware. Besides, drawing the attention of the University Syndicate and the Board of Directors regarding the speedy introduction of higher degrees in Cyber Security and Information Security in the country, he urged the government to implement ICT cadre through the recruitment of skilled ICT graduates.
Participants in the seminar presented various questions on safe internet usage, cyber security, cyber-crime prevention and cyber security laws. Finally, the negotiators answered those questions.
