Credit card transactions have decreased by 6.34 percent in May compared to April this year. Although, the use of credit cards has decreased inside the territory of Bangladesh but has increased outside the country.
According to the latest information published by Bangladesh Bank on Sunday, Tk. 2,369 crore (23.69 billion) was transacted through credit card in May. And Tk. 2,529 crore (25.29 billion) was traded in April. On the other hand, in the month of May, credit card transactions made were Tk. 484 crore. 368 crore was traded in April. In May, Bangladeshis made the highest credit card transactions of Tk. 82 crore inside India.
As a percentage, 12.32% transactions were made more in May than in April. The United States is in second position. Bangladeshis traded Tk. 71 crores in that country.
According to the report of Bangladesh Bank, the central bank published the first report on the trend of card spending in June this year. Bangladeshis spend the most on credit cards in India as a single country. About one-fourth of the total spending on credit cards outside the country is made in India.
The report also shows that customers shopped the most at department stores. Both in the months of April and May, the highest usage of credit cards were made in departmental stores. However, credit card transactions for clothing purchases have decreased in May. In the month of April, 340 crores of taka were traded, but in the month of May, Tk. 83 crores were traded. In this case, about 75 percent of transactions have been reduced on credit cards within a month.
Bangladesh Bank has not given the reason for the decline in credit card transactions within the country.
