App-based bike or taxi will not run on the streets of India’s capital New Delhi for the time being. The Supreme Court of the country issued a stay order on Monday on the order of the Delhi High Court. A vacation bench of Justice Aniruddha Bose and Justice Rajesh Bindal said that bike-taxi services cannot be allowed to move on in Delhi for the time being. We have to wait till the formulation of new transport policy of Delhi government by next July.
On May 26, the Delhi High Court ordered the start of bike-taxi services in the capital. Along with this, the Delhi government said that it will not be able to take any strict action against the two companies that provide bike-taxi services: Uber and Rapido. The UP government of Delhi approached the Supreme Court challenging the order of the High Court. Last week, the Supreme Court had sent a notice seeking the views of the Center and the Delhi government on the introduction of bike-taxi services in the capital.
During the hearing of the case in the bench of Justice Aniruddha Bose and Justice Rajesh Bindal, the lawyer of the Delhi government said that the final policy regarding bike-taxi movement in the capital will be announced by the end of July. After this, the judges issued a stay order on the orders of the Delhi High Court. However, in this regard, the two companies that provide App Cab services, Uber and Rapido, may approach the Delhi High Court for a speedy hearing.
