The fifth council election of Barisal City Corporation (BCC) will be held on Monday (June 12). This time the voting in all centers in Barisal will be held in EVM machines for the first time.
One and a half thousand EVMs (Electronic Voting Machines) have been sent to 894 booths in 126 centers to conduct voting.
On Sunday (June 11) at 11:30 a.m., election materials were distributed from the city’s Zilla Shilpakala Academy (District Art Academy), informed the Returning Officer Md. Humayun Kabir. He said that in the morning, the presiding officers took over all the goods including the EVM machine. Later, they went to their respective centers with the members of the law and order forces.
Meanwhile, out of 126 centers, 106 centers have been identified as more important, said the Metropolitan Police Commissioner Md. Saiful Islam.
On the other hand, referring to EVM as the safest method of voting, Election Commissioner Kazi Habibul Awal said that many people say that there are ghosts in EVMs. But after a lot of searching, nothing was found.
A total of 167 candidates will compete in the Barisal city elections, including 7 for mayor, 118 for General and 42 for Reserved women councilors. The number of total voters in 30 wards of City Corporation is 2 lakh 76 thousand 298. Among them, 1 lakh 37 thousand 489 are male and 1 lakh 38 thousand 809 are female voters.
