Cyber Police of Lalbazar arrested the young man named Rahul Verma on the charge of embezzling about 70 lakh rupees. According to the police, a resident of Sinthi in North Kolkata alleged that he received a message on WhatsApp last March. He was asked to invest money through a webportal created on Telegram.
The arrested youth admitted that he opened a crypto account in January last year. He also advertised cryptocurrency trading on social media. He allured the investors to get back several times the investment. Some responded to that. They started investing little money in cryptocurrency.
At first, the accused started returning much more money than the investment. Many people found it trustworthy. They gradually started investing more money. Accused kept sending money to a bank account. But as soon as he started sending more money, they stopped returning the money. Thus the accused cheated the complainant of 69 lakh 83 thousand 354 rupees. After investigating, the detectives searched Rahul’s house in East Babarpur East Delhi and arrested him. The police said that the accused has been brought to Kolkata and is being interrogated.
