The Cabinet has approved the draft of ‘Dr. MA Wazed Mia Agricultural University Act, 2024’ and ‘National Logistics Policy 2024’. The stakeholders of the sector believe that the National Logistics Policy will covertly play a role in the expansion of online business and the development of e-commerce. The university will be located in Natore, the electoral district of Zunaid Ahmed Palak, the state minister for Post, Telecommunications and Information Technology.
These two drafts were approved in the cabinet meeting held on Monday chaired by the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. This information was conveyed by the Cabinet Secretary Mahbub Hossain in the Cabinet meeting room of the Secretariat while informing about the decisions taken in the Cabinet Meeting.
He said that the cabinet has approved the draft of ‘National Logistics Policy 2024’. The government has made this policy for the first time in the country with various objectives including reducing the cost and time in transportation of goods and keeping supply normal. Actions should be taken by all ministries to ensure that the scheduled time or minimum time, minimum cost, product supply system is normalized. The new policy has guidelines on what actions to take.
According to the draft policy, there will be a 16-member council headed by the Prime Minister. Apart from eight ministers, there will be various levels of people. This council will give overall direction. Apart from this, there will be a coordination committee headed by the Chief Secretary to the Prime Minister. This policy has guidelines for various types of assistance including infrastructural development in the field of transportation of goods.
The Cabinet meeting also approved the draft law for setting up a university in Natore. The draft law of this university proposed as ‘Dr. MA Wazed Mia Agricultural University’ was approved in the Cabinet meeting in October last year. But due to lack of time, it was not presented in the national parliament. Therefore, to protect the rules, now again they presented this draft to the cabinet and gave final approval.
