Amazon, the world’s largest e-commerce company, has decided to lay off more than 18,000 workers as part of its cost-cutting policy. Amazon Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Andy Jassy sent a memo to employees announcing the layoffs. The note said that the workers will know about the job loss on January 18.
The British media reported that the company sent this message to the employees on Wednesday, US time. The CEO of the company wrote in the statement about the layoff, ‘We have reduced the number of workers in November. We are again planning to lay off 18,000 workers.’
However, Andy did not say anything clearly in the statement about which region the workers will be retrenched.
In November last year, Amazon announced the layoff of 10,000 workers. And by September of that year, Amazon had 1.54 million permanent workers worldwide.
