Brazil’s central bank plans to launch a digital currency in 2024. To this end, the President of the Central Bank, Roberto Campos Nieto, will start a pilot project with financial institutions next year. News Reuters.
On Tuesday, the head of the central bank said that the project has already received an international response. The digital currency system will encourage banks to ‘techonize’ their assets in potentially profitable situations.
He also said that digital currencies will not affect monetary policy or damage bank balance sheets.
Meanwhile, IMF representatives have learned about this initiative of the central bank and have given their opinion. This model is easy to implement and other central banks will follow it, the IMF said.
