57 BPO (Business Process Outsourcing) or call centers of the country may be off in the coming year. The regulatory agency BTRC has already sent letters to the institutions to de-register these BPOs/ Call Centers for not following the guidelines.
According to the 269th Commission meeting of BTRC, call center registration certificates are issued for a period of five years. There is a rule to apply for renewal one month before the license expires. But 57 BPOs did not apply. In order to improve discipline in the telecommunication sector, the Commission has decided to cancel the registration of 57 BPOs /Call Centers, including 53 for not submitting a response to the expired and show-cause notice, three subject to surrender of certificates and one for not submitting a response to the show-cause notice.
Towhid Hossain, Secretary General of Call Center, BPO and Outsourcing Sector Association of the country, told DigiBangla that the decision to cancel the registration is an ongoing process of BTRC. I don’t have the full list of deregistered call centers. However, there will be no more than 2-3 BACCO members among the listed BPOs.
He said that many people have come to this business whimsically. In total, there are now 276 BPO companies in the country. Out of these 82 call centers are licensed. Basically, non-compliance of conditions, non-operational establishment, not informing BTRC every six months how the operation is going – for these reasons and non-renewal of license, non-response to show-cause notices issued, BTRC took this decision. So, it is natural that those who are not interested in being regular in the business will be off. However, so that no one gets off by mistake, the service desk has been opened as a BACCO member service on who needs to update the license, what kind of paper, when and how to update.
That is why 100 new members have been added to the country’s BPO sector in the last two years. Tauhid Hossain said that the BPO sector is gradually doing well. The market is also expanding. As a preliminary, 20 thousand new jobs have been created in the country’s BPO sector this year. The market size has crossed the $275 billion milestone.
It is reported that since the chairman and managing director are sick, a company named Hello World Technologies Limited applied for cancellation of the call center registration certificate issued in their favor subject to surrender. On the other hand, when Multimedia Content and Communication Limited company applied for renewal, the Commission found that the company was almost inactive (non-operational). The company was given a 30-day show-cause notice but they did not respond. Consequently it has been decided to cancel the Call Center Registration Certificate for violating the provisions of the BPO/Call Center Guidelines.
It may be noted, the total number of BPOs or call centers issued by BTRC is 236. Entrepreneurs said that the condition of this sector in the country is going well this year. Last March also, one call center registration certificate was issued in favor of 18 new organizations (domestic and international registration certificate).
