Organized by the World Bank, a 4-month long filmmaking workshop called Postpro Talent has started in Dhaka. This event is being organized with the technicians of various technical fields including sound and color engineers involved in the production of movies in the country. In this workshop, the new and young cinematographers of the country are getting hands-on learning about post-production and cinema-related issues.
Editing and post-production supervision is taught by Steve M. Chow, sound techniques by Han Miuang-Huan, and color grading by popular Singaporean filmmaker, writer and producer Chai Yee Wee.
Trainee directors are involved in film production and engineering on various international platforms including Netflix, DisneyPlace. Popular Singaporean filmmaker, writer and producer Chai Yee Wee said, “The youth of Bangladesh are very interested in making movies. Such workshops give a lot of inspiration to the freshers. The youth of Bangladesh are very hard working. There are opportunities for Bangladeshi artists and craftsmen to work in the world’s cinema industry. Skills and technical training are needed to increase that opportunity. The technical aspect of film making is changing in tandem with technology. This workshop is being organized by the World Bank with emphasis on that matter.
This workshop was inaugurated recently (April 28) at the World Bank office in Dhaka. Officials of World Bank’s Dhaka office, filmmakers, engineers, writers and researchers were present at the inaugural event. World Bank Senior Economist Syed Rashed Al-Zayed said, “The concept of green economy is now gaining popularity all over the world. Through the green economy, youth entrepreneurship and new business opportunities are being created. In that context, the post-production sector plays an important role in the film and content creation process. Technical skills and creativity are important here.”
The recent rise of OTT platforms, the rise of digital media dependent economy and the establishment of modern cinema halls, film production houses multiplexes are creating opportunities for new levels of employment generation. There are many opportunities for the participation of Bangladeshi talent and youth in this industry in the near future. This workshop is being conducted to enhance Bangladesh’s opportunities and potential in the multi-billion dollar industry. Initiated by the World Bank and supported by Spellbound-Leo Burnett, the workshop provides theoretical and practical training to participants. Spellbound-Leo Barnett has joined as a training partner for the PostPro Talent Lab 2024 Workshop on Filmmaking Techniques.
Bangladeshi film director and screenwriter Rezwan Shahriar Sumit said about the diversity and novelty of the workshop, “The history of cinema in our country is very old. Now a lot of changes are coming in the world of cinema in keeping with the technology. Upcoming technology challenges and hands-on training opportunities are available at the PostPro Talent Lab 2024 workshop. The trainers are conducting this workshop with experience in the international movie market including Netflix, Disneyplace. As this is the first time such an event is being held in the country, we are very excited to create new opportunities for young artists.”
About 23 young technicians of the country have been selected for the lab workshop. Marzana Safat, the selected producer and editor at the workshop, said that there are few opportunities for institutional training in our country. I am working for many foreign organizations in the country. I hope that this training opportunity will open up work opportunities for us in the Asian film market and global platform. Roy Chinmoy, who participated in the workshop, said that there are few opportunities for hands-on training in our country. In such an opportunity organized by the World Bank, an opportunity is being created for the professionals of our country to learn directly from the professional engineers. This program is being managed and supported by Spellbound-Leo Burnett of Bangladesh.
As part of the training, the trainees are being given hands-on training in various subjects including studio and shooting management for editing movies in Bangladesh Film Development Corporation. Through the training, participants will have the opportunity to produce three short films.
