Posts and Telecommunication Minister Mustafa Jabbar said Bangladesh has achieved remarkable success in ensuring digital security. Although we cannot reach the level of many developed countries in terms of digital security, Bangladesh is far ahead in terms of global capabilities. We have already closed 26 thousand porn sites and 6 thousand gambling sites to ensure safe internet. On seeing such sites, the minister assured to shut them down within 24 hours.
The minister told it while speaking as the chief guest at the seminar on ‘Digital and Cyber Security’ organized by the Electronics Safety and Security Association of Bangladesh at the Bangabandhu International Conference Center in Dhaka on Saturday.
Posts and Telecommunications Minister referred to the Digital Security Act enacted in 2018 as the country’s first digital security law to ensure the digital security of the citizens of the country and said that digital security requires the most precautions. To keep yourself safe, this pioneer of digital technology development highlighted various ways of protecting your account password, being careful in checking unknown suspicious mail, not using pirated software. Emphasizing the importance of encouraging children to use digital devices or mobile phones in the digital age, he said that there is technology for children to practice the good aspects of the Internet and discard the bad aspects.
Parents can use parental guidance technology to ensure children’s safe internet use. Mustafa Jabbar, the promoter of Bengali language in digital technology, highlighted his 35 years of experience in developing digital technology including computers and said that the journey of computers started in the region in 1964 with the hands of Hanif Uddin Mia. After 1987, following the introduction of Bengali in computers, first the newspaper office and later in the fiscal year 1998-99, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina withdrew VAT-tax from computers and brought computers to the doorsteps of common people. He said, under the visionary and wise leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, we have succeeded in the computer revolution and are on the verge of success in ensuring digital security.
The Telecommunication Minister said, ‘Because of digital technology, criminals are not only being identified easily but also not getting any chance to flee. Law enforcement agencies are using digital technology to effectively bring criminals to justice.’
The President of Electronics Safety and Security Association of Bangladesh Zahir Uddin Babar, General Secretary of the organization Mahmudur Rashid, former President of Computer Association Shahidul Munir and Secretary General of BACCO Touhid Hossain spoke at the event.
