National Board of Revenue (NBR) has achieved a new milestone in online filing of income tax returns. One lakh taxpayers filed income tax returns online till Wednesday (November 23). The organization celebrated such success of NBR by cutting a cake.
At this time NBR Chairman Abu Hena. Rahmatul Munim, Member (Tax Information Management and Services) Md. Zahid Hasan, Sams Uddin Ahmed, Member (Tax Administration and Human Resource Management) Shaheen Akhtar and senior officials of NBR were present.
It is known that currently more than 82 lakh taxpayers have taken e-TIN registration in the country. Out of which 1.75 lakh returns have been filed so far. It is said that the number of return submissions will increase in the next few days.
An income tax return is generally a means of presenting a taxpayer’s annual income, expenditure and asset information in a prescribed form.
If the income of an individual-taxpayer is more than three lakh taka per annum, if the income of a person of the third sex, women and 65 years and above is more than three lakh taka per annum, if the income of a gazetted freedom fighter is more than four lakh 75 thousand taka per annum And if the income of a disabled taxpayer is more than four and a half lakh taka, it is mandatory to file his return.
It is not only necessary to submit returns from the current financial year, but to get various government services, proof of return submission is also required. As per Income Tax Guidelines 2022-23, proof of return filing has been made mandatory for 40 types of services.
Due to which e-TIN holders have no option to file returns. The National Board of Revenue (NBR) has taken various steps to provide online services to alleviate the suffering of taxpayers.
