His Excellency Md. Abdul Hamid, the President of the Peoples Republic Bangladesh and the Chancellor of the universities urged the university authorities to launch one stop service center, counseling and support center and career planning unit to provide the desired services to the students. He made this call in the president’s speech at the 53rd Convocation of Dhaka University on Saturday.
The Chancellor of universities Md. Abdul Hamid said, ‘Transparency and accountability must be ensured in every work of the university. Merit and qualification should be given priority in any recruitment process including teachers.
In the convocation organized at the Dhaka University central playground, the Chancellor also urged the teachers to come forward for the welfare of the people of the country by utilizing the talent and innovative power of the young researchers. He said, ‘Build conducive study and research environment for students. So that they do not have to go abroad for this.’
The Chancellor expressed concern and said that digital Bangladesh will become ‘Smart Bangladesh’ within a few days under Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s work and competent leadership. Students face neglect and harassment. Care must be taken, so that the dignity of the entire teaching community is not tarnished by the activities of a few dishonest people. Some teachers consider the university job as an optional duty. They prefer to take part-time courses or classes in private universities. The teachers of the university were all meritorious and excellent students. ‘I believe you will be able to sign the signature of success in any field.’
While welcoming the Convocation speaker Nobel laureate professor Dr. Jean Thiel, the President said, ‘I believe, your presence will enrich and inspire the young graduates to work for the welfare of mankind and society.’
Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Md. Akhtaruzzaman, Vice-Chancellor (Administration) Professor Dr. Muhammad Samad and Vice-Chancellor (Education) Prof. Dr. ASM Maqsood Kamal also spoke on the convocation.
Cabinet members, members of Parliament, representatives of various diplomatic missions, DU Senate and Syndicate members, teachers, guests and honored students and researchers were present on this occasion.
153 gold medals were given to 131 outstanding teachers, researchers and students of Dhaka University (DU) in the Convocation. The Gold Medals were awarded for meritorious contribution to education and research and various fields.
