Hundreds of consumers and traders have formed a human chain to demand the release of Mohammad Russell, the co-founder of the online marketplace Evaly. The participants in the human chain demanded that if Russell is released, they will get back the money stuck at the gateway and the goods in the godown.
This human chain was organized under the banner of ‘Common Customers and Merchants of Evaly’ at Shahbagh in the capital on Saturday.
Tariqul Aziz Bappi, on behalf of the organizers of the human chain, said that Russell Bhai has been imprisoned for almost 14 months. We have been demanding for so long. We believe that if he comes out, we will get our 25 crores taka stuck in the payment gateway. In addition, there are more goods worth about 25 crore taka lying in the godown. They are perishing. If Russell Bhai comes out, these money and products can be distributed evenly with information from Amazon’s servers.
Evaly’s merchant Mohammad Shafiqul Islam said in the human chain, Evaly is now doing business in profit. We want to give time to Russell. He will do business and pay us the money or the goods gradually. So, whose interest is met and he is detained but our interests are not being met? The organizers said that if Russell is not released soon, there will be a tougher movement.
