Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) has fined 65 Internet Service Providers (ISPs) for not implementing ‘one country one rate’ in internet services. The list of fined ISPs is available on the BTRC website . These ISPs were fined 50 thousand taka each in the 267th commission meeting of BTRC.
A letter has been sent to the concerned institutions on Monday (October 10) with a warning to take legal measures including license cancellation if the fine is not paid within the next 10 working days. Besides, it is said that action will be taken against those who have receive complaints against.
It is to be noted, internet service was announced at one rate across the country on June 6 last year. But it could not be implemented as the International Internet Gateway (IIG) and Nationwide Telecommunication Transmission Network (NTTN) services were not fixed. Finally, that barrier was also removed. Post and Telecommunication Minister Mustafa Jabbar announced new tariffs for these two services in August of that year.
On the same day, BTRC fixed bandwidth prices in 11 slabs in different volumes for IIG and transmission capacity volumes for NTTNs. Accordingly, service charges have been fixed in 15 slabs. It is defined in three slabs. They are – 5 Mbps 500 taka, 10 Mbps 800 and 20 Mbps 1 thousand 200 taka. This new price is supposed to be effective on September 1 last year. But many people not accept it. This is the penalty for this.
