Apple workers in the US state of Maryland have voted to form a union. Earlier, there was a demand for a union but it was rejected by Apple. News Reuters.
Of the 110 Apple Store employees in Toussaint, Baltimore, Maryland, 65 voted to join the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM). 33 employees voted against.
According to IAM, this is the first of more than 270 Apple stores in the United States to join the Store Union. This is how history is made, IAM authorities think.
Robert Martinez Jr., International President of IAM, said: ‘The core employees of the Apple Stores at Toussaint have won. I salute their courage. At the same time, I hope that Apple CEO Tim Cook will respect the results of this election.’
The union said Toussaint’s store workers sent a letter to Tim Cook, a union of organized workers, urging them to “inform him of the decision to organize” and not to discourage or block their union efforts.
