This time, the Metaverse researcher herself has been the victim of organized rape in Metaverse. Nina Jane Patel, a British citizen, is the co-founder and vice president of Horizon World. She alleged that she had been tortured on Horizon World, the virtual platform of Meta. Nina also made a post on the subject through social media.
The 43-year-old woman wrote that she was sexually harassed within minutes of joining Horizon World. Even pictures of hers were taken. She complained that even after trying to block and report them at the time of the incident, she could not be successful. Eventually she was forced to take off her virtual reality headset and turn it off. She thought the whole incident was like a surreal and nightmare.
A Meter spokesman said Horizon venues should be kept safe and they are committed to keeping it safe.
Harassment of virtual women is nothing new. However, analysts believe that the companies concerned need to be more careful.
The characters in Neil Stephenson’s novel Snow Crash in 1992 became virtual reality stories using virtual reality headsets. The novel became very popular with Silicon Valley engineers. That being said, Metaverse is being created under the influence of that novel. Various companies are investing heavily in this technology. Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Meta, the parent company of Facebook, has introduced the term ‘Metaverse’ to the world by promising that virtual reality will be matched with worldly reality. But this time, the co-founder of Horizon World faced worldly hellishness in that Metaverse.
