The High Court has stayed the government’s decision to install a set-top box on TV for a month. A preliminary hearing of a writ petition on Monday (November 22), The bench of Justice Md. Mojibur Rahman and Justice Md. Kamrul Hossain Mollah passed the order.
Prosecutor Deputy Attorney General Nowroz Mohammad Russell Chowdhury confirmed the court order to the media.
Lawyer Khandaker Mashfiqul Huda appeared for the court.
Earlier on October 26, the Information Minister had said that there is a unanimous decision to implement the network digitally in Dhaka and Chittagong cities by November 30. As a result, customers in these two cities will have to take a ‘set top box’ within this period. Otherwise, watching television will be disrupted.
Besides, the government has issued a public notice to install set top boxes for digitalization of cable networking system in Dhaka and Chittagong city by November 30.
According to the notification, customers of the two regions will not be able to watch satellite channels without setting up a set top box during this period.
