Elon Musk’s Starlink will be able to provide internet services around the world by next September. However, it will depend on the approval of regulators.
Gwen Shotwell, president of SpaceX’s artificial satellite-based Internet unit, said they had already successfully launched 1,800 artificial satellites.
“Once the artificial satellites are put into operational orbit, we will be able to continue our global activities,” said Shotwell in a webcast at a technology conference. But in order to do this, we have to take control in every country and get approval to provide telecom services.
According to Shotwell, Starlink plans to install a total of 12,000 satellites at a total cost of 10 trillion dollars. The company currently provides beta services in 11 countries.
Earlier in May, Elon Musk said more than half a million pre-orders had been received for artificial satellite networks in low-Earth orbit. Starlink has received approval from the US Federal Communications Commission to provide services at the beginning of the year.
