Toyota, the world’s leading car manufacturer, has temporarily stopped production at 14 factories in Japan due to ‘system malfunction’. And after the news of the closure, Toyota’s market share fell by 64 percent.
A company spokesperson said on Tuesday that the plant’s operations have been suspended due to technical errors in complying with the instructions for component assembly. The spokesperson also confirmed that cyber crooks have no hand behind this error.
According to Al Jazeera’s news, 12 of the 14 plants were initially said to be closed the day before. But later it was decided to close all the plants. However, there is no word on when Toyota will resume production or how much damage the company may incur due to the defect.
Earlier, Toyota was forced to temporarily suspend operations at 14 plants in February last year after supplier Kojima Industries suffered a cyber-attack. Then one day production was stopped, which affected the sales of about 13 thousand cars.
Toyota has topped the automaker market for three consecutive years. 10.4 million Cars sold in 2022. A third of the world’s total Toyota vehicles are produced in 14 factories. The Japanese auto giant has set a production target of 10.6 million vehicles for the current year.
