Popular short video platform TikTok has released its latest Community Guidelines Enforcement Report. In this report for the first quarter of 2023 (January-March 2023), TikTok has given utmost importance to preventing the spread of misinformation and making the online safer. The importance of TikTok’s commitment to building trust through accountability, making the platform safe for the community and maintaining a conducive environment is highlighted in this report.
In the first quarter of 2023, TikTok removed 9 crore 10 lakh 3 thousand 510 videos from the platform worldwide for violating community guidelines. Which is about 0.6 percent of the videos uploaded on the platform. Out of these videos, 5 crore 34 lakh 94 thousand 911 videos have been removed through the automated system. However, after verification, 62 lakh 9 thousand 835 videos were returned.
At the same time, TikTok removed 42 lakh 36 thousand 493 videos from Bangladesh for violating community guidelines. In the fourth quarter of 2022, 42 lakh 54 thousand 667 videos were removed for the same reason. In addition, TikTok also targets spam accounts and related content. The platform also takes preventive measures to close automatically generated spam accounts.
In the first quarter of 2023, 92.2 percent of the videos removed from Bangladesh were removed before anyone viewed those. And within a day, about 95.3 percent of the videos were removed. With that, 99.5 percent of videos were actively removed in this quarter.
A comparison with the fourth quarter of 2022 shows that 95 percent of Bangladesh videos were removed before anyone watched those. That rate fell slightly in the first quarter of 2023.
TikTok prioritizes the safety of all young users around the world. With that in mind, 1 crore 69 lakh 47 thousand 484 accounts have been removed worldwide on suspicion of users under the age of 13. In addition, 5 crore 12 lakh 98 thousand 135 fake accounts were removed in the first quarter, which is one of TikTok’s efforts against fraudulent activities.
