India is building the first 3D printed post office in Bangalore. Larsens and Trubo will build the facility in Cambridge Layout, Halasuluru, covering an area of 1,000 square feet. The construction work will be completed within 35-40 days. The cost will be 40 percent less than the construction of a normal building. 23 lakh taka is being spent on the construction of the three storey building including the ground.
In between there are residences, villas, military barracks, one-story schools, post offices and factories.
MV Satish, senior executive vice-president of construction firm Larsen & Toubro Limited, said the 3D technology for building construction has been approved by their Building Materials and Technology Promotion Council (BMTPC). IIT Madras approved the structural design of the post office.
Karnataka Circle Chief Postmaster General S Rajendra Kumar told the media that they were looking for an option where a low-cost post office can be built using 3D technology.
