Campus Day was held in Rajshahi and Rangpur, the divisional cities of North Bengal, to highlight the significant aspects of technical education. This awareness program was held on January 17 at Rangpur Polytechnic Institute and on January 19 at Rajshahi Mahila Polytechnic Institute in collaboration with the International Labor Organization (ILO) Skills-21 project funded by the European Union.
The program is implemented by the Directorate of Technical Education. As part of the awareness programme, job fairs along with job and skill development workshops, student skill competition were organized in both the educational institutions. In this event, which is open to all, the students got different directions for career development besides highlighting their skills. Apart from submitting their resumes at job fairs, several people also got jobs through direct interviews.
Rangpur Divisional Commissioner Md. Sabirul Islam and Rajshahi Divisional Commissioner GSM Zafarullah inaugurated the awareness program respectively at Rangpur Polytechnic Institute and Rajshahi Women’s Polytechnic Institute.
On the other hand, Divisional Commissioner GSM Zafarullah inaugurated the ‘Campus Day’ by cutting the ribbon on behalf of the divisional administration. Special Additional Deputy Commissioner Jaya Maria Perera, President of Rajshahi District Chamber of Commerce was also present on behalf of the Deputy Commissioner Md. Masudur Rahman Rinku. A group of teachers and students of various technical educational institutes participated in the rally on behalf of the City Corporation with technical teachers and students in the Campus Day.
Certificates were awarded to 15 winners of the skill competition through student participation. Many were inspired to pursue technical education after hearing the success stories of former students. Career workshops discussed how to build a career after TIVET education. Representatives of 19 local industries and institutions also came to the fair to collect the resumes of interested candidates and take the written test and interview for the job. Employers gave employment to eight TIVET graduates with employment letters. Eight more people have been confirmed by the companies.
