After the meeting with the stakeholders, Universal Acceptance Day was celebrated in Bangladesh for the first time on Tuesday through a workshop on the technical aspects of writing e-mail addresses in Bengali characters. 137 participants participated in the two-day workshop on Universal Acceptance of Bengali Language in the cyber world at the BTRC conference center at Ramna in the capital. Among them, public and private, teachers, businessmen and even specially able people participated.
The workshop was inaugurated by Brigadier General Ehsanul Karim, Director General of E&D Department of BTRC.
ICANN IDN Program Senior Manager Pitinan Kormorpanta was attached as a trainer in this workshop conducted by Mohammad Abdul Haque, Secretary General of Bangladesh Internet Governance Forum- BIGF.
In a long presentation, he also showed in hand how the Bengali e-mail infrastructure will be.
BNNRC CEO AHM Bazlur Rahman and ISPAB General Secretary Nazmul Karim Bhuiyan took part in the discussion after the workshop and suggested various issues.
Discussions also focused on strengthening Bangladesh’s participation in the Unicode Consortium as well as setting up a national committee to accelerate its commercial facilitation and promotion.
The day was jointly observed by Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) and Bangladesh Internet Governance Forum (BIGF) in collaboration with Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN).
