The Speaker of the National Parliament commented that women should be empowered in the field of work with skill and talent. Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury said that women should be proficient in facing the challenges of the changing world. Smart women will play a unique role in building a smart Bangladesh.
The Speaker expressed her thoughts at a seminar titled ‘Smart Women: Smart Bangladesh’ at the LD Hall of Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban on Sunday (March 5). The seminar was organized by Innovation and Development Associates (iDEA) Foundation.
Mentioning that women have the opportunity to participate in all fields to build Smart Bangladesh Dr. Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury said, ‘We must ensure equality of opportunity for women in all areas of the family, society and country. Only then will women move forward by eliminating backwardness.’
Regarding the role of women in the overall development of the country by achieving the SDG targets, the speaker said, ‘To ensure sustainable development, inclusive and gender-free development all kinds of legal support should be provided to create an enabling environment for women to move forward.’
Meher Afroz Chumki, President of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Ministry of Women and Child Affairs, was the special guest at the seminar. It was presided over by iDEA Foundation chairman and former secretary Kazi M Aminul Islam.
Apart from the members of Parliament, there were Vice Chairman of iDEA Foundation and former Chief Secretary and Chief Coordinator (SDG) Md. Abul Kalam Azad, former chairman of human rights commission and former senior secretary Nasima Begum, secretary and former senior secretary of iDEA Foundation Mohammad Shahidul Haque, country managing director of Oracle Bangladesh, Nepal and Bhutan Rubaba Daula, professor of women and gender studies department of Dhaka University Dr. Tanya Haque and Bangladesh Highway Police Additional DIG Farida Yasmin.
