The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of Bangladesh Police conducted a special seminar at the CID headquarters in the capital with the participation of students on controlling cybercrime. It was informed in the seminar that people have become dependent on technology as a result of the advancement of technology in the modern world. People can easily connect anywhere in the world within seconds through internet. There are some risks as well as benefits to people. Criminals are committing various types of cybercrimes online including cyber fraud, money laundering, cyber-attacks, drug and human trafficking, pornography, hacking, phishing, malware, ransomware, data breach, cyber bullying. However, the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of Bangladesh Police is working tirelessly to control and prevent these crimes.
From that experience, at the end of the seminar, valuable advice on what to do in cyber security is provided.
A total of 254 students from Dhaka University, Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET), Jagannath University, BRAC University, North South University, Uttara University, Canadian University Bangladesh and Green University Bangladesh participated in this seminar titled Student Engagement to Combat Cybercrime. Students participating in the seminar were given an opportunity to visit the forensic lab of the CID.
Additional DIG (Cyber Investigation and Operations) of CID, Muhammad Tauhidul Islam spoke as the main discussant on the activities of Cyber Police Center in the seminar. In his speech, he discussed the latest cybercrime types, what to do, remedies and prevention.
In this seminar held on Saturday, April 27, Superintendent of Police of CID Digital Forensics Department Muhammad Shamsul Haque highlighted various aspects of digital forensics. Professor Dr. Khan Sarfraz Ali spoke as a moderator in the seminar.
Students participating in the seminar learned about cybercrime and expressed their opinions. At the end of the seminar, CID chief and Additional IGP Mohammad Ali Mia handed over certificates to the participating students. He said that the students participating in the seminar will inform the CID about cybercrime prevention and information related to cybercrime as ambassadors of CID after this training. While speaking as the chief guest, CID chief said, “The young generation and students will be active in preventing cybercrime through digital awareness buildup and will work together with CID to build a smart Bangladesh.”
He also said, “Today’s students are the future of the country, they will be the leaders of the nation and the artisans of building the country.” Today’s students will act as frontline fighters in the future to prevent cybercrimes like cyber bullying, cyber harassment, unethical content, hacking, phishing, malware, ransomware etc.”
