Professor of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) Department Dr. Syed Md. Ghalib has been elected as the President and Associate Professor of Nutrition and Food Technology Department (NFT) Dr. Md. Ashrafuzzaman Zahid has been elected as the General Secretary in the Jashore Science and Technology University (JUST) Teachers’ Association election. Out of the 11 positions of the teachers’ association, including the President and General Secretary, they won from the panel of the blue team, an organization of teachers who believe in the spirit of the liberation war.
After counting the votes, the results were announced on Sunday afternoon by the Chief Election Commissioner of the Election Commission, Professor Dr. Shirin Nigar. Voting was held in the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Academic Bhaban gallery of the university from 10 am to 1.30 pm. In this election, 198 of the total 314 voters exercised their right to vote. However, even though they were voters, many could not come to vote as they were away from home and abroad on higher education leave. In addition, polling was held only for the posts of President and Vice-President as they were elected unopposed in other posts.
Professor Dr. Syed Md. Ghalib, the Former Dean of Faculty of Engineering and Technology, who is currently serving as the Chairman of Department of Computer Science and Engineering of JUST. He served as the Vice-President of the previous committee of the Teachers’ Association. And Dr. Md. Ashrafuzzaman Zahid was elected General Secretary for the second consecutive time. He is currently serving as the Provost of Shaheed Masiur Rahman Hall of JUST
In the announced results, Associate Professor of Environmental Science and Technology Department Dr. Md. Mahfuzur Rahman was elected the Vice-president. Md. Shaheen Sarkar, Assistant Professor of the Pharmacy Department , Co-general Secretary; Chairman of the English department Dr. Md. Munibur Rahman as Treasurer; Tarun Sen of Accounting and Information Systems Department as Sports and Cultural Secretary; Assistant Professor of Textile Engineering (TE) Department as a Member of the Executive Committee; Tanvir Hossain, Lecturer of Mathematics Department Faisal Ahmed, Assistant Professor of Industrial and Production Engineering (IPE) Department; Sakhawat Hussain, Assistant Professor of Fisheries and Marine Bioscience (FMB) Department, Al-Mamun Farid, Lecturer of Chemistry Department, Ishrat Jahan were elected. They will serve in these positions for the next one year.
The JUST Vice-Chancellor Prof. Md. Anwar Hossain congratulated the newly elected committee of the teachers’ association. He said, I sincerely wish and congratulate all the newly elected committee. The university administration will kindly consider the reasonable demands raised by the teachers’ association. Hopefully, all of the new committee will work unitedly to advance the education and research of this university.
Chairman of Electrical and Electronic Engineering (EEE) Department Dr. Md. Tanveer Hasan, Associate Professor of Chemistry Department. Md. Korban Ali, Assistant Professor of the same department Dr. K. M. Anis-ul-Haq, Assistant Professor Nafisa Noori Islam, Department of Climate and Disaster Management (CDM) served as Election Commissioners in this election. Apart from them, the teachers of various departments perform the duty of polling agents of the candidates.
