The US has imposed new restrictions on the import of telecommunications products from China’s Huawei Technologies and ZTE. President Joe Biden’s administration has accused these technologies of posing an ‘unacceptable risk’ to US national security. News Banikabarta and Reuters.
The Federal Communications Commission (FCC), the US regulatory body of the telecom sector, gave a list of prohibited names of certain technology companies on Friday.
These include Chinese security and surveillance equipment maker Dahua Technology, video surveillance firm Hangzhou Hikvision and telecom firm Hytera. A final ban has been issued on the import and sale of the products of these companies.
Washington has taken this strict measure due to fears that Beijing may monitor the United States through technology companies.
FCC chief Jessica Rosenworcel said in a statement that the new restrictions are part of an ongoing effort to keep citizens safe. The ban was imposed to prevent the use of Chinese technology from jeopardizing national security.
Huawei did not immediately comment on this. ZTE, Dahua, Hytera and the Chinese embassy in Washington did not respond to requests for comment. However, Hikvision said in a statement that their products do not pose a threat to US security.
