The 19th International Junior Science Olympiad (IJSO 2022) is going to be held in Bogotá, the capital of Latin American country Colombia, on December 02-12. Students from 50 countries of the world are going to participate in this battle of talent of under – 16-year-olds. The best six students selected from all over the country through the Al-Arafah Islami Bank 8th Bangladesh Junior Science Olympiad will represent Bangladesh on the world stage of IJSO 2022.
They are S. M. Abdul Fattah (Class 10) and Kazi Nadid Hossain (Class 10) of Khulna Zilla School; Sirajus Salekin Sameen of Cumilla Zilla School (Class 10); Md Azmain Adeeb (Class 9) of Udayan Higher Secondary School, Nafis Noor Tasveen (Class 9) of Bir Shrestha Noor Mohammad Public College (Class 9); and Marzuk Rahman (Class 8) of English School and College, Chattogram. Professor Dr. Farseem Mannan Mohammadi of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology will accompany them as the main leader of the Bangladesh team. The assistant team leaders are Ibrahim Mudassar and Tasnim Ara, academic counselors of the Bangladesh Science Popularization Association and PhD researchers at the University of Wyoming. The Bangladesh team will leave for Colombia on November 30. It should be noted that the 19th International Junior Science Olympiad 2022 will begin with the opening session on December 3.
Today 26 November 2022, Saturday, at 4 pm, a press conference was organized at Biswa Sahitya Kendra to introduce the Bangladesh team members to everyone. Bangladesh Science Popularization Association Vice President Munir Hasan introduced the members of the Bangladesh team to the audience at the press conference. He said, “This time we have formed this team through many challenges. After that we arranged for 28 days residential training for 6 people of Bangladesh team. We hope this team will bring good medals for Bangladesh from Colombia”. Sajjadur Rahman Chowdhury, Executive Director of Bangladesh Freedom Foundation, another organizer of the Olympiad, wished the best for the Bangladesh team and said, “This year we are sending teams to far away Latin America. This team would not have been possible if the parents of the team members had not cooperated in sending their children. I thank the parents for that. “Bangladesh Biology Olympiad General Secretary Dr. Soumitra Chakraborty was also present at the event. He said, “Corporate institutions of the country are very interested in organizing concerts. But sponsors cannot be found for all these Science Olympiads. In the meantime, I would like to thank some institutions including Al-Arafah Islami Bank who are sponsoring these Olympiads. ”
This year Al-Arafah Islami Bank 8th Bangladesh Junior Science Olympiad started from the first week of last September. Along with regional Olympiads, school Olympiads and online e-Olympiads are organized in four regions namely Dhaka, Chattogram, Khulna, and Netrakona. National event organized at National Science and Technology Complex. Then the Bangladesh team of six members was announced after considering the results of the team selection test and their other performances.
It is worth noting that like every year, this year, under the auspices of Al Arafah Islami Bank, Bangladesh Science Popularization Association, Bangladesh Freedom Foundation and National Science and Technology Museum have jointly selected the Bangladesh team.
