Post and Telecommunication Minister Mostafa Jabbar said that 96 percent of the country’s total demand for mobile phones is being produced in the country. The minister gave this information in the Chief Guest’s speech on Tuesday night at the honoring ceremony of voluntary blood donors organized by Quantum Foundation at the IDEB Auditorium in Kakrail of the capital. He said, in the continuation of the implementation of Digital Bangladesh, we have achieved 96 percent production capacity of the total demand of mobile phones, while in the past, we had to import even a laundry soap from abroad.
On the occasion, Mostafa Jabbar said, “Nothing can be nobler than voluntary blood donation to save life. Blood donors are enlightened people of the nation. He emphasized on the need to spread the practice of voluntary blood donation in the family to meet the demand of blood. There are some diseases especially thalassemia patients who have to donate blood two or three times a month. Once blood had to be bought from professional blood donors but that scenario has changed a lot now. Now, it is possible to meet this demand of blood through voluntary blood donors. He said besides creating awareness about thalassemia disease, it is necessary to diagnose thalassemia carriers. Awareness should be raised, so that, two thalassemia carriers does not marry.”
Posts and Telecommunication Minister said that life is connected with blood. And that life is the life of the best creature on earth. He said, people are respected for their own actions. Voluntary blood donors are also honored for their work. They are respected not only by themselves but by the entire nation. Mr. Mostafa Jabbar, the pioneer of digital technology development, said that under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Bangladesh, which was despised as a bottomless basket, has been established on a strong economic foundation today. Standing on this strong foundation, Bangladesh will face the adverse effects of the global recession and move forward on the ladder of progress. He emphasized the need for caution in using import-dependent luxury goods to counter the adverse effects of the global recession.
About three hundred voluntary blood donors who have voluntarily donated blood at least 3 times, 10 times, 25 times and 50 times were awarded certificates, ID cards and honorary crests.
During this time, Saleh Ahmed, a 50-time blood donor, expressed his feelings on behalf of voluntary blood donors, and a thalassemia sufferer Sabeka Rahman Ashpia expressed her feelings from regular blood recipients.
M Rezaul Hasan, Director, Quantum Foundation Motivation of Voluntary Blood Donation Program, delivered the welcome speech. The Voluntary Blood Donation Program was chaired by Madam Nahar Al Bokhari, Chief Coordinator of Quantum Foundation. Expressing sincere gratitude to the regular blood donors, she expressed the hope of meeting the country’s blood shortage through voluntary blood donation.
It is worth mentioning that, our country needs about 8 lakh bags of safe and healthy blood every year.
