Former finance minister and Awami League advisory council member Abul Maal Abdul Muhith passed away. Inna lillahi wa inna ilaihi rajiun.
He died at the United Hospital in the capital at 12:56 pm on Friday (April 29). The veteran politician was 88 years old.
In a separate statement, the President Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina as well as Posts and Telecommunications Minister Mostafa Jabbar and State Minister for Information and Communication Technology Zunaid Ahmed Palak wished peace to the soul of the deceased and extended deep sympathy to his bereaved family.
Referring to Finance Minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith as a legend of financial management in Bangladesh, Posts and Telecommunications Minister Mostafa Jabbar said, “He was a rare genius. The Minister recalled his contribution in the formulation of Awami League’s election manifesto in Bangladesh in 2008 and in the implementation of Digital Bangladesh program after 2009. “The country has lost a rare genius in his death. I have lost a very dear one,” he said.
In his condolence message, State Minister for ICT Zunaid Ahmed Palak said, “Abul Maal Abdul Muhith was a renowned economist, politician, writer and linguist at the same time. The nation will always remember his contribution to the economic development of Bangladesh with everlasting gratitude.”
