Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Mayor Md. Atiqul Islam announced the date for the removal of the hanging wires by 30 June, 2022. Although the implementation of this guideline is challenging considering the time, ISPAB, an organization of internet service providers, is working with utmost importance.
The DNCC mayor announced the deadline at a meeting on overhead cable relocation and excavated road repairs of various companies held at Nagar Bhaban in the capital’s Gulshan on Tuesday afternoon.
The meeting chaired by DNCC CEO Md. Selim Raza, was attended by Chief Engineer Brigadier General Muhammad Amirul Islam. Among stakeholders, Saiful Islam Siddique, co-president and Sakif Ahmed, director of ISPAB, an internet service provider organization, were present.
During the meeting, Saiful Islam Siddique, senior vice-president of ISPAB, briefed the mayor on the overall situation of implementation of the plan to remove the hanging wires. He said that they are doing their best to take the work forward. Meetings and coordination work is also going on.
The ISPAB says that wires from 33 of the 60 roads directed by the city corporation have already been removed. Work is in progress on 3 other roads. In some places, the beauty of the city has been ensured by arranging two or more wires on the basis of partnership as there is no opportunity to take it underground.
The president of the organization said that, we could have completed the work on time if we could work in a COVID free normal situation. Although the time is not enough, we are still trying our best. In the meantime, we have done a lot of work. He expressed his optimism that by June, there will be no internet wires hanging on any of the important major roads and even on many connecting roads. And it will be possible to implement this work within the next year.
