Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has commented that there is no alternative to science education in the development of the country. She was speaking at the inauguration ceremony of the National Science and Technology Complex via video conference from the Ganobhaban on Thursday. Minister for Science and Technology Yafes Osman and other senior officials were present on the occasion at the National Science and Technology Complex in Agargaon. Director General of the National Museum of Science and Technology Muhammad Munir Chowdhury delivered the welcome address on the occasion.
In her inaugural address, the Prime Minister urged to increase the scope of science education and research in the development of the country. The Prime Minister highlighted the various efforts of the Awami League government to bring everyone forward in science research. She also briefed in short about the development and progress of Bangladesh so far in various fields.
“Research should be emphasized in the development of the country’s economy. The government has allocated enough fund for research works”, she added.
Sheikh Hasina also commented that the countries which are advancing in scientific research are able to make rapid economic progress. So, there is no substitute for research to improve.
Criticizing the BNP, Sheikh Hasina said the BNP has ruined the possibility of development through technology while in power. To them, power was for sheer enjoyment.
The Prime Minister said that technology expert Sajeeb Wazed Joy is working for the welfare of the country and the people. Since we have formed the government three times in a row, we have been in government for a long time (about 13 years), we have had a little opportunity to work. We have been adopting and implementing various plans for the last 13 years to establish e-governance and develop the ICT industry.’
Sheikh Hasina said that no salary was paid to Sajeeb Wazed Joy, Adviser to the Prime Minister on Information and Technology. Rather he works without any payment what I should inform you. Because a lot of people talk a lot without any base. He is working for the welfare of his country, for the education of the people of the country.
On the occasion, the Prime Minister urged everyone to follow the hygiene rules and get vaccinated to prevent the new variant of Corona, Omicron.
Highlighting the ‘little’ lagging in health research sector, the PM said, “We have very a few doctors who are actually interested in research work, instead they mainly focus on prescribing patients. research. Only a handful of doctors engage themselves in research work.”
“However, in this case, we are taking steps that we desperately need research in health sector.”
Emphasizing practical research along with basic research, the Prime Minister called for applying acquired knowledge for the sake of our socio-economic development.
Sheikh Hasina warned about ‘Omicron’, a new variant of Corona has reached our country, it is spreading fast; everyone has to abide by the hygiene rules. Those who have not been vaccinated should be vaccinated as soon as possible.
The President of the Standing Committee on the Ministry of Science and Technology Dr. AFM Ruhul Haque, President of Bangladesh Academy of Sciences Kazi Abdul Fattah, Secretary of the Ministry Ziaul Hasan, scientists and researchers were present in the inaugural program among others.
Architect Yafes Osman, in his eloquent poetic speech, while addressed as the chairman of the program said that a knowledge-based society was one of the elements of Sonar Bangla, as planned by the father of the nation.
