For the first time in the country, the results of private schools were published centrally through digital lottery. The Education Minister Dr. Dipu Moni inaugurated the program by pressing the keyboard button at the National Academy for Educational Management (NAEM) in the capital on Sunday afternoon.
This online school admission lottery took place centrally through Teletalk’s special software.
Earlier, on December 15, a lottery was held in government schools for admission from class1 to class nine. 75 thousand 969 students were selected through the process.
This time 3 lakh 68 thousand applications have been submitted against 9 lakh 40 thousand seats of private schools. Earlier, the online application process for school admission for the academic year 2022 started on November 25. It lasted till 12 midnight on 16th December.
Department of Secondary and Higher Education (DSHE)had earlier said in an office order that the process of selection and admission of students through lottery in public and private secondary schools must be completed by December30. In order to ensure transparency and accountability in the lottery activities, the Admission Management Committee, Ministry of Education in the case of Dhaka Metropolitan, DSHE parents, management and teacher representatives should be present.
Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, students from first to ninth grade were admitted through lottery last year. Earlier, only the students of class one were admitted through lottery. And for the admission of students from 2nd to 8th class, examinations were taken. Admission to the ninth class was based on the results of Junior School Certificate (JSC) and Junior Dakhil Certificate (JDC) examinations.
Following the outbreak of the coronavirus, all educational institutions across the country were closed on March 17, 2020. About a year and a half later, on September 12, the school-college classes started.
