It has been alleged that a 4th grade student named Raju (13) was killed by smashing a brick in Singair of Manikganj.
The accused have been identified as Alif, 16, son of Raju Quraishi of Dakkhin Sahrail village in Sayesta union of the upazila.
Raju, who was critically injured in the incident on Thursday, died at the hospital on Saturday morning. Raju is the son of Moslem Mistry alias Mosa of the same area.
According to family sources, Alif called Raju from his house on Thursday evening. Alif later took him into the Kashban on the banks of the Kaliganga river at Ruparchar Bazar in the Nilambarpatti area, tucking a shirt into his mouth hitted him in the head and chest with a brick.
At one stage, Alif left the scene thinking that Raju was dead. Meanwhile, on the way home from Bazaar a local resident Nuru heard the sound of groaning in the bush. Raju was later rescued in a critical condition and taken to Sahrail Ibrahim Memorial Hospital.
Raju was admitted to Enam Medical College Hospital in Savar that night as his condition was critical.
Later, Raju, who was undergoing treatment, died on Saturday morning. Outraged locals surrounded Alif’s house on the news of his death. Tensions spread in the area.
Upon receiving the news, the police arrested Alif and his sister-in-law contractor Mahmud and his mother Hosne Ara from the spot.
A shotgun was also seized from Alif’s sister-in-law, Mahmud as said by the police inspector (investigation) Sheikh Mohammad Abu Hanif.
However, Mahmud has claimed to the police that the seized shotgun is licensed.
Additional police force are deployed in the area till the writing of this report. The case is being prepared at the police station.
